Humble Nut Butter Co-Founders and husband-wife team John and Jessica are not native Minnesotans, But after starting their family they left their beloved Chicago for a place to call home for good and raise their family, for them that place is Minneapolis, Minnesota, a progressive community with diversity, access to nature and the outdoors, a vibrant city culture, and a thriving area of businesses. Its not perfect but its our home and as neighbors and business owners we feel its our responsibility to give back in a meaningful way. Organizations to support

Indigenous Food Lab is a restaurant, education and training center that will serve as the heart of NATIFS work establishing a new Indigenous food system that reintegrates Native Foods and Indigenous focussed Education into tribal communities across North America. We envision a future of developing and supporting multiple tribally operated kitchens bringing cultural and nutritional revitalization across North America!

Minnesota Central Kitchen: Minnesota Central Kitchen helps communities respond to COVID-19 by re-hiring laid off kitchen workers to prepare needed meals from rescued food.

The Philando Castile Relief Foundation was established to help victims​who have been affected by gun violence and police violence.

Open Arms of Minnesota is a nonprofit that cooks and delivers free, nutritious meals.

J-HAP was formed to serve the life-long needs of adults with developmental disabilities. The only program of its kind in Minnesota, J-HAP provides much more than housing. We offer a way of life with an array of progressive amenities that allow individuals to live independently, increase self-esteem and thrive within a Jewish community that is open to all.

Art Shanty Projects annual winter festival welcomes curious locals, regional artists, and visitors from beyond our borders to explore Shanty Village and expand the notions of art.

People to Know

Chef Sean Sherman and The Sioux Chef team works to make indigenous foods more accessible to as many communities as possible. To open opportunities for more people to learn about Native cuisine and develop food enterprises in their tribal communities through the nonprofit North American Traditional Indigenous Food Systems (NATIFS).

Beth Dooley has been involved with the local food movement for over twenty years. She is the author of numerous award-winning cookbooks about Heartland food traditions. We met Beth the first month we launched Humble Nut Butter at our local farmer’s market and instantly hit it off. Lake Harriet (Bde Unma) and Bde Maka Ska: Minneapolis is nick-named the city of lakes and it doesn’t get more quintessential Minneapolis than taking a walk or a bike ride around Lake Harriet and/or Bde Maka Ska. And depending on the time of the year, (and the state of COVID 19) a quick 20 minute ride on the historic Como-Harriet Street Car is a fun and relaxing way to see both lakes.
